Paris’s Centre Pompidou breaks new floor by buying 18 NFTs

The Centre Pompidou has introduced the acquisition of a collection of 18 NFTs from 13 distinguished French and worldwide artists. The works are set to hitch France’s nationwide assortment of recent and modern artwork, one which has been buying pioneering “new media” artwork because the late Nineteen Seventies, together with work by Nam June Paik, Valie Export, Bruce Nauman, Invoice Viola and Vito Acconci.

The acquisition—the primary of its sort by a serious French public museum—got here because of a joint effort between scientific and administrative groups from the French Ministry of Tradition and the Pompidou’s director, Xavier Rey.

The artists whose NFTs have been acquired by the Pompidou are Aaajiao, Emilie Brout and Maxime Marion, Claude Closky, Fred Forest, John Gerrard, Agnieszka Kurant, Jonas Lund, Larva Labs, Jill Magid, Sarah Meyohas, Robness, Rafael Rozendaal, and John F. Simon Jr.

As a part of the acquisition, the Pompidou will tackle Kurant’s NFT Sentimentite-Mt. Gox. Hack—one of many Sentimentite collection produced in collaboration with the platform Zien, and primarily based on the notorious Mt Gox. crypto change collapse in 2014—which could be redeemed for a bodily twin. Lund donated a piece known as the Good Burn Contract—Hoarder (2021), a code-based art work that self-destructs if the directions inscribed should not adopted. The Pompidou has not commented on the acquisition price range, nor on whether or not they have established a centralised pockets to retailer the NFTs, however on-chain information exhibits that CryptoPunk #110, in addition to Kurant’s Sentimentite-Mt.
