An exhibition concerning the early days of the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA), based in 1962 as the primary—and solely—fine-art faculty for Native People, opens this week on the Saint Louis Artwork Museum (SLAM). Motion/Abstraction Redefined: Fashionable Native American Artwork, Forties-70s will see ancestral aesthetics dominate and merge with Summary Expressionism, Colour area and Onerous-edge portray.
In its early years, IAIA was thought of the epicentre of Native American artwork.
