Messaging platform Telegram has introduced an in-app browser to support decentralized websites, accessible on both mobile and desktop.
As announced by Telegram on July 31, this new feature, “TON Sites,” aims to bring Web3 functionalities directly into Telegram.
TON Sites allows users to set up their own web servers and host websites on The Open Network (TON).

Telegram’s founder, Pavel Durov, said:
The Browser lets users switch between viewing websites and messaging, merging communication with news consumption. It is equipped with all the features you would expect from a browser — like search, bookmarks, and multiple tabs.
In addition to the new browser, Telegram has launched a Mini App store. The new feature aims to enhance user interaction by providing a single location for mini apps within the ‘Apps’ tab in the search function. This tab shows frequently used apps and trending mini apps, making it easier for users to access their favorite games and services or discover new ones.
Telegram has also introduced a new feature where users can send “Stars,” a unit within the Mini App payment system, to their friends.
One standout app on Telegram is Hamster Kombat, a tap-to-earn game on Telegram where players manage virtual crypto exchanges as CEOs. It has attracted over 300 million players in just four months, and the game’s creators claim it is the third-fastest app to have reached 150 million users.
Overall, Telegram’s latest features are set to enhance user experience by merging communication with decentralized web browsing and interactive mini apps.
