Lucerne, Switzerland, November 28, 2024 — The Polkadot Blockchain Academy (PBA) is returning to Europe for the first time in over two years, offering its Cohort 6 developer course at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU) in March 2025.
Notably, the three-week program will equip participants with advanced skills in blockchain development, focusing on Polkadot’s technology stack while remaining accessible to developers across various ecosystems. As part of the Zug Blockchain initiative, this course marks a significant collaboration between HSLU’s Blockchain Lab and the newly created blockchain research institute.
“Cohort 6 represents a pivotal moment for Polkadot Blockchain Academy, providing a platform to shape the next generation of web3 innovators,” said Dr. Gavin Wood, co-founder of Polkadot and one of the program’s instructors.
Key Highlights
- Location and Dates: Classes will be held on HSLU’s campus in Lucerne, Switzerland, starting March 2025.
- Instructors: Core modules will be taught by prominent figures in the Polkadot ecosystem, including Dr. Gavin Wood.
- Tracks: Two technical tracks will be offered for the first time—Protocol (on-chain) and DApps (off-chain).
- Cost Coverage: The Polkadot Treasury will fund course fees, accommodation, and half-board for approximately 100 participants.
Application Process
The program is highly selective, with applicants required to complete a rigorous process:

- Attend an interview.
For those needing preparation, PBA-X, Polkadot’s online school, offers foundational training to help prospective candidates qualify.
Broader Context
This initiative underscores Polkadot’s commitment to advancing blockchain education and fostering innovation within the web3 space. The Academy’s alumni have gone on to secure roles within ecosystem projects, launch ventures, and contribute to Polkadot’s growth.
By introducing the DApps track, the Academy aims to address the increasing demand for developers specializing in decentralized applications. Participants will leave with hands-on expertise in navigating Polkadot’s architecture and leveraging tools for web3 development.
“This cohort is more than a training program—it’s a springboard for future leaders in blockchain technology,” said a Polkadot spokesperson.
Looking Ahead
With strong support from Parity Technologies, Web3 Foundation, and Polkadot Fellows, graduates will gain opportunities to advance their careers within the blockchain sector. As hiring within Polkadot-based teams accelerates in 2025, the Academy serves as a key talent pipeline.
