Haliey Welch, known online for the viral “hawk tuah” moment, will be featured in a new documentary by Bungalow Media, an Emmy-winning production company.
The film will take a closer look at Welch’s rise in popularity after a short clip from a street interview spread across the internet in June 2024.
The project focuses on how Welch became a well-known figure almost overnight. On June 11, 2024, her video drew more than 40 million views within just a few days.

At first, Welch stayed out of the spotlight. But over time, she chose to take part in the spotlight, using the moment to explore different projects. These included a podcast that reached high chart positions, a dating app, a music project, and a charity called Paws Across America.
In December 2024, Welch also got involved with the Hawk Tuah (HAWK) token. It briefly reached a market value of $490 million before dropping by more than 90% almost immediately.
Welch’s team said she did not sell her portion and that no influencers were given free tokens. Still, several investors have filed lawsuits against the group behind the project.
The documentary will follow the impact of that attention, the reaction from the public, and the larger role social media plays in turning everyday people into online personalities—often without warning.
Furthermore, Welch included a link to the Deadline article about her upcoming documentary on her Instagram account, and her bio describes her as “an influence for good”.
