Apple is developing new microchips that could power its upcoming products, including its first-ever smart glasses and tools for artificial intelligence (AI).

According to a Bloomberg report published on May 8, the company is making progress on several chip designs to improve future devices across different categories.

One of these projects involves a chip called N401. This chip is designed for Apple’s smart glasses and is based on the same technology used in the Apple Watch. However, it has been adjusted to save more energy and support multiple built-in cameras.

The glasses are expected to feature microphones, cameras, and basic AI tools. They are not intended to be full augmented reality devices, but instead offer functions like photo-taking, video recording, language translation, and identifying objects in the user’s surroundings.

These glasses, Apple’s first of their kind, are said to be in early stages, with mass production likely starting in late 2026 or early 2027.

Bloomberg also highlights Apple’s work on other processors, including more powerful chips for future Mac computers.

Additionally, the company is building new server chips for its AI platform, known as Apple Intelligence. This server chip project is known internally as “Baltra”, expected to be much faster than the current M3 Ultra processors.

On May 6, Netflix announced two major changes coming to the platform’s home screen. What are they? Read the full story.
