Crypto & NFT Data Tracker CoinMarketCap Got Hacked

In recent months, there’s been a significant rise in hacks and scams, with scammers and hackers increasingly creating more sophisticated and harder-to-detect attacks. Hackers are targeting victims across nearly all sectors within the crypto market, constantly evolving their tactics and expanding their reach to exploit vulnerabilities wherever they find them. In a recent incident, a gang of hackers compromised the crypto and NFT data aggregator CoinMarketCap.

CoinMarketCap Has Been Compromised

In a June 21 blog post, the CoinMarketCap.com technical team confirmed that its crypto and non-fungible token aggregating platform was slightly compromised earlier this morning, and hackers leveraged the platform to promote a fake malicious pop-up. Just a few minutes later, the technical team assured crypto and NFT users that they are actively working to fix the bug.

Founded in 2013, CoinMarketCap.com is a website that serves as a comprehensive resource for cryptocurrency data, news, and analysis. The platform also provides information on a wide range of cryptocurrencies, including their market capitalization, trading volume, and price fluctuations. CoinMarketCap also tracks crypto exchanges, offering insights into their trading sales volume, liquidity, and traffic. CoinMarketCap tracks over 2 million cryptocurrencies.

CoinMarketCap also has a dedicated section for NFT stats, where you can find information on popular NFT collections, including market capitalization, recent sales data, floor price, and more. CoinMarketCap also provides tools to track and analyze NFT market trends and individual collections. CoinMarketCap allows you to filter and sort NFT data based on various criteria, such as category, platform, and market capitalization.

Crypto And NFT Users Got Drained

CoinMarketCap has over 1.2 million users worldwide for its portfolio tracker. The website itself receives over 340 million monthly visitors. The platform also has a large social media presence, reaching almost 5 million people on Twitter each day. In that case, hackers knew that hacking the platform would definitely profit them. In less than two hours after the hack, several users have already been drained. At the time of publishing, CoinMarketCap has not fixed the malicious pop-up phishing link.
