Yesterday, Ledger, aka the global leader in digital asset security, threw their Op3n event.
Huge product drops, panels with big names, basketball games (no kidding) – this event had it all.
And… oh, would you look at that?
|
Notice something familiar?
… No?
Aight, lemme help:
Yes, BitDegree was there to witness it all!
And it wouldn’t be us if we didn’t give you the inside scoop.
So, here are some highlights 👇
1/ Ledger Nano Gen5
Ledger dropped their newest device – the Ledger Nano Gen5.
|
… And it’s packing some good stuff:
👉 Transaction Check: this feature (already on Ledger Flex and Stax) reviews transactions and smart contracts before you approve them. If anything looks fishy, your device flashes a warning.
👉 Direct dApp connection: no more juggling extra wallets or browser extensions.
👉 Getting paid became simpler: thanks to their new partnership with Noah, a fintech that bridges traditional banking and blockchain, you can route your paycheck right into your Ledger.
👉 Custom badges: you can now personalize your Ledger with badges, from a frog with a crown to a frosty pint (hello, beer enjoyers).
Some badges even feature exclusive artwork by Susan Kare, the legend behind the original Apple Macintosh icons.
So, basically, your Ledger is now: secure ✅ and adorable ✅✅

2/ NO more hardware wallets
Yeah, sounds strange saying this right after I talked about their new device.
Here’s what’s going on: Ledger’s killing off the term hardware wallet. From now on, they’re calling their devices signers.
That’s ’cause their devices do way more than just store crypto – they sign transactions, verify logins, and interact with apps and smart contracts.
The signer name, the company says, better reflects that active role.
|
3/ SUI collab
Ledger also announced a $400K giveaway in collaboration with the SUI network, rewarding users who buy, swap, or stake SUI through Ledger devices.
SUIeet deal!!
Get it 😀 Sweet but it’s SUI 😀
… Don’t leave, pls.
|
4/ Ledger Live got a new name
Ledger Live – the app you use to manage your assets – got a rebrand. Say hello to Ledger Wallet.
And it’s no longer just a companion to hardware – it’s becoming a full-on hub for managing digital value.
The new version is slicker, faster, and more Web3-friendly + it blends CeFi and DeFi seamlessly.

5/ Inside the Donjon
Ledger is best known for its hardware devices. But beyond that, they’re also running a security fortress called the Ledger Donjon.
This elite team of cryptographers and security nerds basically spends their days trying to hack Ledger’s own products before real hackers can.
|
They test everything:
👉 Software attacks (unauthorized access or data manipulation);
👉 Side-channel attacks (physical signal leaks);
👉 Fault attacks (intentionally messing with circuits to find weak spots).
And at the Op3n event, we got a sneak peek at how the Donjon works – with Ledger’s CTO Charles Guillemet walking everyone through real examples of how they stress-test and dissect devices.
It honestly looked less like a tech demo and more like the set of a sci-fi movie.

6/ Basketball
Told you I wasn’t kidding – Ledger HQ in Paris actually has its own basketball court.
Which, idk, is just fun, we got to play, too.
|
All in all, the event showed one thing loud and clear: Ledger’s expanding waaay beyond “that USB stick for Bitcoin.”
If you missed the event, don’t worry – you didn’t miss the message. Ledger’s turning into the go-to bridge between TradFi and the Web3 future.
And if they can dunk on a few competitors while they’re at it, we’re here for it.
