Trent Merrin, a former professional rugby league player from Australia, has been charged in connection with a reported theft of cryptocurrency worth around $91,000 (AUD $140,000).
According to a report by The Sydney Morning Herald, law enforcement officials arrested Merrin at his Barrack Point home on November 4.
The arrest came after months of investigation into suspicious activity linked to the crypto account of a 29-year-old man. Authorities noted that Merrin moved the digital assets through illicit methods to benefit financially.

During the search, authorities took several digital devices, which will be examined to gather more information for the ongoing case.
Merrin was released on bail under certain conditions. He is expected to appear at Port Kembla Local Court on December 3.
Merrin played in the National Rugby League (NRL) for several teams, including St George Illawarra Dragons, Penrith Panthers, and Leeds Rhinos.
He made 250 first-grade appearances and earned representative honours for both New South Wales and the Australian national team. He stepped away from professional rugby in 2021.
Since retiring, Merrin has been involved in business, which focuses on areas such as cryptocurrency and health.
According to his LinkedIn profile, he has been active in investment and business development since 2015, with a focus on blockchain, digital assets, and wellness-related projects.
