Google is bringing its Gemini AI assistant to Maps in India, along with new tools focused on road safety and route updates.
Gemini AI, already available in the US, will soon be accessible to users across India on both Android and iOS.
It supports nine Indian languages and can assist with tasks like finding nearby places, answering travel-related questions, and offering helpful suggestions while driving.

Miriam Daniel, who leads Google Maps, explained that the team adjusted the service to match how people in India speak, search for places, and use street names.
Additionally, Google is adding new safety alerts. Drivers will get on-screen and voice warnings when approaching areas where accidents often happen.
This feature will first be available in cities such as Gurugram, Cyberabad (in Hyderabad), Chandigarh, and Faridabad. Google developed these alerts in partnership with local authorities.
Google is also working with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to get real-time updates about road closures, construction work, and traffic diversions. This collaboration helps Maps show current road conditions and nearby services such as fuel stations, restaurants, and public toilets along major highways.
Android users in cities including Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru will start receiving alerts about serious delays or disruptions even if they are not actively using navigation.
