Amazon has announced it now has permission to use content from The New York Times across its artificial intelligence (AI) systems, including Alexa.
The partnership, announced on May 29, gives the tech giant access to articles, cooking instructions, and sports updates from The Times, The Athletic, and NYT Cooking.
Alexa users might hear cooking steps read aloud or get updates on live games. The content will also help Amazon improve its AI systems’ ability to understand and respond to language.

However, neither company shared any details about the amount of money involved or the duration of the deal.
The New York Times has been outspoken about protecting its work from being used without permission by AI developers. In December 2023, it sued OpenAI and Microsoft, accusing them of using millions of its articles to train their models without approval.
