Software developers at Amazon has told The New York Times that their work is starting to feel less like problem-solving and more like routine tasks.
According to the report published on May 25, a developer stated that their team is half the size it was last year, but is still expected to produce the same amount of code, this time with the help of artificial intelligence (AI).
According to Amazon’s CEO, Andy Jassy, this technology helps businesses move faster and save money. In a recent message to shareholders, he said AI would play a key role in speeding up work, especially in areas like software development, where expectations are rising.

Across the tech industry, developers are being asked to rely more on tools like Copilot, an AI assistant that suggests lines of code. A 2024 study by Microsoft and several universities found that using tools like this can increase a developer’s output by more than 25%.
