Injective Targets 4 Asset Classes With SEC Transfer Agent Status
Injective is adding regulated securities infrastructure to its blockchain to position itself as a venue for institutional tokenization.
The Layer 1 network said on Aug. 19 that its institutional services business had become an SEC-registered transfer agent. Injective described the registration as the first of its kind for a Layer 1 blockchain.
Transfer agents maintain official records of who owns securities and support functions such as transfers, distributions and shareholder administration. Injective said the registration will allow those processes to use distributed-ledger infrastructure while remaining compatible with U.S. securities rules.
“The transfer agent registration [is] the regulated recordkeeping layer that American markets require. The full stack for onchain capital markets is here,” Injective said in a post on X.
Tokenized Markets Expand Beyond Public Equities
The registration builds on a broader expansion into real-world assets.
Injective has launched markets tied to digital-asset treasury companies, public equities and shares of private companies such as SpaceX and OpenAI. It has also introduced Injective Mint Alpha, a platform for issuing tokenized assets.
The network has also been pushing further into enterprise finance. In July, POSCO International, South Korea’s largest trading company, and LG CNS, the technology arm of LG Group, selected Injective for a live trade-finance pilot.
The project is designed to issue, transfer, administer, and settle trade receivables generated through international commerce.
Injective summed up the strategy in its announcement: “Institutional funds. Public equities. Private company shares. Enterprise receivables. Four different asset classes. One network. All live.”
Regulation Becomes Part of the Product
The transfer-agent registration gives Injective a formal role in the legal recordkeeping process for securities, an area that has become increasingly important as traditional assets move onchain.
Institutions need more than fast settlement and programmable assets. They also need compliant ownership records, corporate-action support, and infrastructure that can fit within existing regulatory frameworks.
“With this move, Injective becomes the first layer 1 blockchain to possess the RWA infrastructure and regulatory readiness needed to accelerate tokenization to new heights,” the project said.
The bigger question is whether that regulatory stack can translate into sustained institutional activity. Injective has assembled several of the pieces, from issuance to settlement and now recordkeeping. Its next test is whether large asset managers, banks and issuers choose to use them at scale.
