September 15 (Crypto-News.Net) – tZERO Group, Inc. said on September 14, 2026, that it had announced a tZERO funding round led by Marc and Max Cohodes, with participation from existing investor Intercontinental Exchange, Inc. (NYSE: ICE), investor Bill Fleckenstein, partner Dinari, Inc., and other investors. The company did not disclose the size of the round in its announcement.
tZERO describes itself as a provider of blockchain-based financial infrastructure whose solutions connect tokenization, trading, custody and asset servicing for institutions using regulated channels. In the release, Chief Executive Officer Alan Konevsky said the funding supports operations and execution as the company works to position itself for capital independence and to commercialize and expand infrastructure for tokenized financial markets.
The company said the financing is part of a broader long-term capital plan as it works toward a strategic transaction intended to support the next phase of growth and long-term capital stability. Neighborhood Intelligence also committed to support the round, with its portion to be funded when tZERO announces a binding agreement on a strategic transaction such as a change of control, a sale of substantially all assets, or a merger with a SPAC or another entity.
Marc Cohodes, identified as lead investor, said the round was his third investment in tZERO over the past eight years and that he believes the company has a robust pipeline for infrastructure services with institutional clients. The release also said participants share an interest in tZERO’s longer-term development and in opportunities that include expansion into tokenized and other derivatives, prediction markets, and spot crypto infrastructure-as-a-service with upcoming CFTC licenses. Those licenses were described as upcoming in the company materials and were not presented as already granted.
tZERO funding context and prior ICE collaboration
On August 31, 2026, tZERO and ICE announced a set of agreements under a memorandum of understanding under which tZERO would act as a design partner for digital transfer agent and broker-dealer infrastructure intended to support on-chain settlement on ICE’s planned NYSE-affiliated Digital Trading Platform. That earlier release said ICE had agreed to invest in tZERO’s then-latest financing round and, in connection with the financing, would receive a license to tZERO’s blockchain patent portfolio, described as 23 patent families and 103 patents. tZERO was expected to be designated an approved digital transfer agent and platform subscriber subject to applicable regulatory, technology and operational requirements. The parties also said they would evaluate use of tZERO tokenized assets for collateral management at ICE clearing houses and affiliates.
Tokenization market structure has been a recurring theme in regulated market infrastructure, including separate reports on live tokenized securities activity involving DTC-held assets and onchain issuance pathway agreements.
tZERO did not publish a dollar amount for the September 14 round in the primary announcement reviewed for this report.
