Uniswap (UNI) details how TJAR uses Token Jars and searchers to convert mixed onchain fees into a chosen token across supported chains.

Uniswap (UNI) explains TJAR, its onchain fee conversion system

Uniswap (UNI) Labs has set out how TJAR, its onchain fee conversion system, is designed to turn mixed token balances into a chosen payout asset through market competition rather than in-house treasury operations. In a blog post published on 2026-10-30, author Alan Wu described TJAR as permissionless infrastructure that is already live, audited by OpenZeppelin, and being used by Robinhood for fees collected through the Uniswap API.

Evidence and context

According to the post, onchain systems often accumulate a mix of assets, including blue-chip tokens, long-tail tokens and dust, but ultimately want to convert them into a single token. TJAR places those assets in a Token Jar and lets searchers compete to release them by paying a fixed amount of the operator’s chosen token to a configured destination. The released assets then go to the searcher, while the chosen token can be routed to a treasury, burned, or bridged to an L1 recipient, depending on the operator’s setup.

Uniswap Labs said TJAR grew out of infrastructure built for Uniswap protocol fees and generalizes the protocol fee conversion and UNI burn mechanism into reusable infrastructure for any onchain system. The system uses two main components: a Token Jar that accumulates native and ERC-20 tokens, and a Releaser that defines the conversion rules. Operators can deploy both through the TJAR Factory, which the company said has no control over them after deployment.

The post frames TJAR as a posted-price mechanism. The release threshold stays fixed until changed by the Releaser owner or a delegated config setter, and searchers decide whether to act based on whether the jar’s contents are worth more than the amount required to release them, plus transaction costs. Uniswap Labs said that competition among searchers should push margins lower and help jars clear more efficiently.

The company also said the threshold is adjustable because the right setting depends on how fees arrive, how large deposits are, and how much price exposure an operator is willing to accept. In one example, a jar with a 1,000 USDC release threshold and $950 of assets would jump to $1,450 in value after a $500 fee deposit, creating a larger surplus for a searcher. Uniswap Labs said lower thresholds can clear more often but may be more sensitive to large deposits, while higher thresholds can leave assets exposed longer to price moves.

Robinhood is the early use case cited in the post. Uniswap Labs said Robinhood is using TJAR across its supported chains for fees collected through the Uniswap API, with Token Jars configured for USDC and USDG. The post said the same jars may later accept additional fee sources without changing the conversion mechanism.

The post also emphasized multichain deployment. Uniswap Labs said the TJAR Factory is deployed at the same address on every supported chain, and operators can deploy Token Jars to the same address across chains as well. The company said that can simplify multichain integrations by allowing one fee destination to be used everywhere instead of managing a list of chain-specific addresses.

Related reporting on 2026-10-29 also described TJAR as permissionless infrastructure for onchain fee conversion and identified Robinhood as the first integration partner. Those reports said the launch announcement referred to deployment on seven chains and more than $15.3 million in Token Jar conversions during September 2026, but those figures were company-reported claims rather than independently verified onchain totals. The launch-date reporting also said Uniswap DAO governance could enable an optional protocol fee, but none was set at that time. The company’s 2026-10-30 post does not add a separate verified update on those figures.

Uniswap Labs said TJAR is open source, audited and live today, but the post does not provide a dated next catalyst beyond the live deployment status.
