El Salvador is adding artificial intelligence (AI) to its list of public tech initiatives.
The country will offer AI training to students and working professionals as part of a new education program called the Urban Centers for Welfare and Opportunities (CUBO) AI.
Cathie Wood, who leads the investment firm ARK Invest, has been invited to give the first lecture.

This new project is an extension of El Salvador’s earlier CUBO program, which focused on Bitcoin
The country’s Bitcoin Office shared more details about the program in a March 23 post on X. They said CUBO AI will include expert-led classes and will help participants gain a better understanding of how AI tools work.
Over the past few years, El Salvador has taken several steps to build a tech-focused image. Bitcoin was made legal tender, and schools began teaching crypto basics. The country has also explored using geothermal energy to support Bitcoin mining.
Wood has been following these developments closely. In May 2024, she met with President Nayib Bukele to talk about AI and crypto policy. They also discussed how education could support the country’s digital plans.
