Zach Yadegari, an 18-year-old high school student from Long Island, is running a tech company called Cal AI, which is expected to generate $30 million in 2025, according to FOX 5 New York.
Cal AI is a nutrition and fitness app that lets people take pictures of their meals. The app uses artificial intelligence (AI) to estimate the calories and nutrients in the food.
It reports the amounts of protein, carbohydrates, and fats, and assigns a Health Score to show how nutritious the meal is. Users can also log their workouts, and the app estimates calories burned. These numbers are then added to the user’s daily totals.

The app became available in 2023 and has over 5 million downloads across iOS and Android. A team of 17 people works at the company. The app’s annual subscription costs $30, making it cheaper than many competitors.
Yadegari’s interest in technology began at the age of 7. He began learning to code by watching YouTube videos. By the age of 16, he had created Totally Science, a gaming platform, which he sold in January 2024 for $100,000 after it had gained more than 5 million users.
Even with the success of Cal AI, Yadegari plans to continue his education. He said, “Through college, I will contribute to and grow within that large whole, empowering me to leave an even greater lasting, positive impact on the world”.
