The IT Leader’s Checklist for Upgrading to Native UC Mobility (Without Expanding Your Risk Profile)

For organizations with both desk and deskless workers, native UC mobility has moved from a future roadmap item to an active deployment priority.

Solutions like Webex Go are increasingly being seen as an effective way to rollout enterprise calling infrastructure across the workforce. That’s because unlike traditional mobile UC apps, these eSIM-based approaches address common adoption barriers such as inconsistent call quality, battery drain, and user resistance to app-based interfaces.

While this improves the user experience, it is not the only factor organizations need to consider when deploying eSIM at scale. Extending enterprise communications onto personal devices introduces new operational questions around governance, compliance, provisioning, and voice security that traditional UC deployments do not deliver.

So, before the first eSIM goes live, IT teams need three things in place: a security layer for a mobile network operating outside the traditional perimeter, a compliance framework for a distributed workforce, and an operational model that does not overwhelm the help desk.

That checklist should start with a fundamental question: what is the security posture of the mobile network we’re moving to?

Securing the Network Employees Already Use

Voice-borne threats such as spam calls, vishing attacks, and call fraud have surged. While enterprise platforms like Webex Go offer eSIM integration, they do not provide additional network-level security, leaving mobile employees open to a deluge of spam calls. To keep users productive and safe, IT teams need to manage security.

And that’s a challenge that’s set to become even worse as AI develops. As William Rubio, Chief Revenue Officer at CallTower, puts it:

“When you start to throw AI into it, you realize you’re maybe exposing your customer base, your employees, their proprietary information, and it becomes eye-opening because you’re saying, well, I didn’t know I had these exposures.”

Organizations that identify and address these vulnerabilities during deployment avoid the far more expensive remediation that follows a breach. Securing the network, however, is only one part of the challenge. Governing that network for compliance is the other.

Governing a Distributed Mobile Workforce

A fully deployed eSIM environment creates a compliance obligation many organizations are not prepared for. Enterprise voice over cellular creates call activity, data flows, and user behavior that must be logged, monitored, and governed, particularly for organizations working toward ISO or SOC 2 certification. Although a company may already hold those certifications, assuming they automatically extend to the mobile workforce can be a costly mistake. Rubio is direct about this discrepancy:

“Sure, your infrastructure is compliant, your office is compliant, but 50 percent of your employees are remote and using their mobile device. How are they compliant? All of a sudden organizations are saying, wow, okay, we’re not.”

Meeting that compliance standard without overwhelming the help desk requires centralized visibility: a single environment where administrators can set corporate policies, monitor live traffic, manage call recording, and pull analytics without coordinating across multiple vendor portals. That operational requirement points directly to how the solution is sourced.

One Partner, One Platform, One Point of Accountability

Sourcing eSIM connectivity, voice security, and compliance management from separate vendors recreates exactly the fragmentation IT teams are trying to eliminate. Every integration point is a potential failure point, and every vendor relationship becomes another escalation path when something breaks.

CallTower eliminates that fragmentation by delivering UC, mobility, and security through a single consolidated platform spanning more than 80 countries through its MVNO partnerships, providing broader global coverage than Webex offers directly.

Deployment starts with QR code-based eSIM provisioning. Administrators configure service parameters in CallTower’s backend and email employees a QR code for self-activation, creating a separate business persona on their personal phone. Although the solution removes the need for an app and allows enterprise calls to be taken through a phone’s native dialer, those calls still run directly into existing Teams, Zoom, or Webex environments, creating a record of communication for compliance purposes.

Additional administration controls available through CallTower’s proprietary Connect portal further strengthen compliance. IT teams can manage policy controls, call analytics, billing, and compliance recording from a single interface.

Because CallTower provides the eSIM connectivity alongside the integration, it can also layer security directly into the network. Using Mutare spam blocking integrated into the stack, the solution filters voice threats before they have a chance to ring employees’ phones. For Rubio, the value of consolidation is obvious:

“Why manage multiple different vendors when you could get it from one consolidated vendor that knows your design, and when something needs to change, they are the experts?”

The Cleaner Path Forward

eSIM is the clearest route to a mobile workforce that actually uses enterprise communications infrastructure. Organizations that deploy it successfully treat security, compliance, and management as part of the same decision rather than problems to solve later.

Get those three things right and the business case closes itself. Security vulnerabilities that were once invisible become manageable. A distributed workforce that fell outside the compliance perimeter comes back inside it. And an IT team stretched across multiple vendor relationships gets time back.

That is what a well-deployed eSIM environment delivers, and why the partner behind it matters as much as the technology itself.
